IIFA Awards 2014: Leading Ladies Of Fashion

The 2014 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards were held in Tampa, Florida this year. Now that the awards have been handed out, we turn our attention to the fabulous ensembles that all of the talented attendees wore! While the men attended in an array of smartly pressed suits, it’s the stunning gowns worn by the Bollywood actresses that really caught our attention. Read on for our break down of the leading ladies in IIFA Awards 2014 Fashion!

Kalki Koechlin: Kalki Koechlin looked ravishing in a grey, Gaurav Gupta gown. Its regal silhouette gives it the appeal of an outfit featured on ABC’s fairy tale-inspired series, Once Upon A Time, and the bold neckline and broad shoulders are highlighted by Koechlin’s up-do.

Although the dress is stunning, the ensemble fails to succeed as a whole. There is a notable lack of accessories and an absence of dramatic make-up; the inclusion of colorful lips and bold eyeliner could easily have made Kalki Koechlin’s look a well-rounded and memorable one.

Yami Gautam: A rising star in Bollywood, Yami Gautam’s fresh face and young heart are put on display in this Gauri and Nainika gown.

The black fitted bodice is paired with a full white skirt – simple and understated. This look could easily have been elevated from “cute” to “red carpet sensation” with a statement piece of jewelry.

Parineeti Chopra: Do you remember what Emma Watson was wearing at the 2014 Golden Globe? We do, and it seems as though Parineeti Chopra does, too. Taking a leaf out of Watson’s book, Chopra attended the IIFA Awards in a peachy hue, one-shouldered dress designed by Nikhil Thampi. With the left side of the dress missing, it is essentially a shirt, which Chopra pairs with a pair of black, fitted trousers.

Parineeti Chopra let her hair hang loose on her bare shoulder, complimenting her outfit. Her heavy eye make-up, however, looks muddy and does not photograph well. A softer, dewy face would have been better suited for this look.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene: Madhuri Dixit-Nene is often seen in glamorous, Desi attire. For this year’s IIIFA Awards, she dons a navy, Jatin Varma gown. A soft, curly up-do and ruby lip complete the dazzling look.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene is sheer perfection in this look, but overall, the ensembles vibe is boring. Mrs. Nene maybe be aging herself quicker than we want her to!

Malaika Arora Khan: This mommy is a hottie! Bollywood “It” girl Malaika Arora Khan may not have fashionista status, but we always expect something sexy from her. She doesn’t fail to meet that expectation with this black, cut out dress by Shivan Narresh.

The halter dress fits Arora Khan like a glove, and her hair, held back in a controlled, sleek ponytail, compliments the look. Gold hoop earrings (of a respectable size) and a cocktail ring add personality to the black dress, and the whole look is anchored with a coral lip color.

Bold, sexy, and unique, Malaika Arora Khan is an IIFA Awards fashionista!

Dia Mirza: Dia Mirza is a beauty who generally keeps it classy with her fashion choices. This year she wears an ombre, pink, sequin gown by Sabyasachi.  The dress is beautiful, and the complimenting up-do was the perfect hair choice for the look.

The issues come with the gown’s poor fit; Dia’s figure is long and lean but this dress creates the illusion of love handles that the actress does not really have.

Kareena Kapoor Khan: Kareena Kapoor Khan is often scrutinized for her daring fashion choices. At this year’s IIFA Awards she is a vision in a black, Armani gown that is fitted to perfection! The plunging neckline could have appeared tawdry, but Mrs. Khan avoids a negative outcome because she carries the gown (and herself) with grace.

Sleek, pulled back hair and black kohl-lined eyes make this look, elegant, effortless, and comfortable without being lackluster. #BestDressed

Sridevi: It’s a grand Oscar De La Renta gown for Sridevi, and she certainly looks like she belongs at the Oscars, not the IIFA Awards. The look is beautiful.

Compared to her colorful green carpet mates, Sridevi just appears boring.

Priyanka Chopra: Priyanka Chopra dons a gold Monique Lhuillier dress. The nude frock is balanced by dark eye make-up, and with her hair in an up-do to showcase the beautiful embroidery of the lace, the look is complete.

We are used to seeing Chopra in skin-tight outfits, so this soft, modest look is a unique one for her.

Bipasha Basu: Looking sexy in black is a recurring theme at the IIFA Awards 2014, and Bipasha Basu does the same in a dress by Rocky S, a designer and good friend of the actress. Coral nail polish and lip color complete the look, while Basu’s vibrant hair color and bluntly cut bangs give the ensemble personality.

This is a comfortable, safe, and predictable look for Bipasha Basu, and we wish that she had worn something colorful instead.

Sonakshi Sinha: As her body continues to shrink and tone, Sonakshi Sinha maintains her habit of embracing her figure and dress in a way that compliments her shape. Sinha’s a showstopper in a blue and black Amit Aggarwal gown. The dress is captivating, colorful, and features unique details.

Sonakhi Sinha dons an appropriately soft and natural look for make-up, and loose, large curls in her hair.

She certainly is another #BestDressed winner this year!

Deepika Padukone: Deepika Padukone has curves, guts, and a fashion sense that many women envy. She wore a red, Zuhair Murad frock for her green carpet look – and the dress is exquisite!

Padukone’s hair is slick and perfectly teased, but she ruins the ensemble with the use of a wine-colored lipstick. Either embrace the red or compliment the nude, the lipstick as it is throws the whole look off.

Who is your pick for Best Dressed at the 2014 IIFA Awards?
