Fun with Fall Foliage: Desi Look Book

On this beautiful, chilly day in mid-September, the fall foliage brings about a warm color palette of golds, bronzes, and greens for us to play with. While out for a family celebration, I slip into a traditional outfit infused with the colors my natural surroundings.

It all begins with the outfit and a clean face. The outfit is a navy blue kameez with orange and green threadwork patterned around the high collar.

Because my outfit compliments my hair color quite well, I let the two melt into each other with a backcomb and big, luscious curls. This deconstructed look juxtaposes delightfully with the carefully-stitched and structured neckline.

I chose a perfectly bronzed look for my face using Benefit’s “Dallas” blush, and the eyeshadow “Lucky” from Urban Decay’s Vice 3 palette.

The makeup look was missing something, though, and I needed a color pop to take it to the next level. I chose to work with a pop of blue, and used Hard Candy’s 1000 Lashes mascara in indigo. Before applying this mascara to my bottom lashes, I applied a coat of white primer (the ‘step 1’ portion of the L’Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara); this gave the indigo mascara more vibrancy.

With a nude lipgloss by NYX finishing off the makeup look, it came time for me to find the perfect accessories! The blue mascara took this once traditional Pakistani look on a journey to the West, and I wanted my jewelry to further enhance that cross-cultural fusion. Today, I opted for emerald drop earrings from Zara. The gold post behind the earring lends some unexpected character to the look!

The colors of the fall foliage are truly represented by the blonde hues, indigo blue mascara, and bold, contemporary earrings.

I hope this look inspires you to let your surroundings influence your look, and that my South Asian girls try fusing another culture with their own – because it’s so much fun!
