Nicolas Ghesquière Names Louis Vuitton Artistic Director

Nicolas GhesquièreNicolas Ghesquière, formerly the creative director of Balenciaga, is officially the new artistic director for Louis Vuitton. He replaces Marc Jacobs, who stepped down in early October to focus on the Marc Jacobs brand and prepare for a possible IPO.

Jacobs’ leaving Louis Vuitton was anticipated; as contract with parent company, LVMH, was to expire in 2014. Ghesquière steps in after a break in his career. He’s been a free agent since November 2012, after he was ousted from his position at Balenciaga and replaced by Alexander Wang.

Ghesquière tells WWD, “Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration… I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”

The label released a statement saying Ghesquière will bring “a modern creative vision to the House’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”

This is an exciting move in the fashion world. Let’s see what Nicolas Ghesquière can cook up for us!
