Urban Galentines Date Night: OOTD

As a newly married woman, I have my forever Valentine, and February 14th for us means a date abundant in glitz and glam. I switch it up on February 13th, however, and celebrate Galentine’s Day which calls for a different kind of aesthetic—my Urban Galentine’s Date Night look.

Galentine’s Date Night is a must, and this year my friends and I chose to mark the occasion with a dine-in movie, so my outfit had to be comfortable, stylish, and well-suited for the environment. I tend to get cold when I go out; you will often find me wearing extra layers and carrying a shawl. Because movie theaters tend to be on the cooler side, a layered ensemble was imperative for this date.

Urban Galentines Date Nights Outfit

For Urban Galentine’s Date Night, the outfit starts with a red-and-black checkered shirt dress from Old Navy. While ironing this shirt, I had some pleasant flashbacks to my elementary school days, a time when I was an avid checkers player.
I paired my checkered shirt with basic black cotton leggings and a hooded jacket of mixed textures. This jacket anchors the “urban” aspect of this look—I purchased it roughly a decade ago from New York & Company, and haven’t grown tired of it since then. As much as I need to retire the jacket, I refuse to get rid of it until I have acquired its replacement.

Urban Galentines Date Night: Accessories

Completing the ensemble are a pair of black leather sneakers with floral embroidery from Aldo Shoes, and my go-to everyday black handbag. This purse is a Chloe Marcie leather hobo bag, and I absolutely love it! I wear this bag 70% of the time, and have yet to get bored of it.
Accessory-wise, I grabbed a modest silver statement necklace from my collection and complimented it with silver knotted earrings. The pieces were nothing to fuss over, but still made an impact.

Urban Galentines Date Night: Hair & Makeup

For my hair, I knew that eating in the dark movie theater would be no easy task, so I opted for an up-do. With a bit of volume on top, I pulled my hair back, braided it, and wrapped it into a bun which I secured with a few bobby pins and hairspray.
My favorite red lippie (the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery), Urban Decay’s Naked Heat eyeshadow palette, and Fenty Beauty foundation adorned my face and completed the look.
This year’s Galentine’s Date Night—complete with the Urban Galentine’s Date Night look—was another one to remember! I love my friends and use any opportunity I can get to spend time with them and celebrate our special bond.
